Refurbishment

For over more than 50 years we have worked closely with the MOD. In 2010 we were awarded a 10 year partnering agreement that has saved the UK taxpayer between £11m and £20m annually by facilitating the reuse of approximately half a million containers every year. We process a range of containers varying in size from small bullet boxes to Unit Load Containers that hold 17 tubes for carrying rockets or torpedoes.

The refurbishment process we offer involves:

  • Sorting
  • Cleaning
  • Removal of old inner components
  • Blasting
  • Welding
  • Re-shaping
  • Painting
  • Refit of internal components, straps and packaging

The repair services we offer allows the MOD to reuse containers that would have previously been considered beyond economical repair.

In addition to the above we also helped the MOD to write the Statement of Technical Requirement for each container type (over 70 in total), offering project management services to the customer. We also work to set quality requirements, ensuring the boxes are fit for purpose and leave us very close to being as good as new. As part of our quality checks we provide pressure testing for containers that need to be watertight, fully sumbermersing each one to perform the check. We also load test larger ammunition containers to ensure they can safely hold 1000KG. To perform this test we use a customised crane and weight.
